Curb Ramp Requirements

Photograph of a sidewalk ending in a curb next to a street, with no curb cut at the transition between the sidewalk and the street. Visible at the edge of the sidewalk where it abuts the street are the feet and wheels of a person using a wheelchair. The ADA requires that, when cities repave or otherwise alter their streets anytime after January 1992, they also install curb ramps on corners adjacent to those streets.   28 C.F.R. § 35.151(I).  Many cities appear to have repeatedly violate this requirement by repaving and altering streets without installing curb cuts.   We are happy to provide additional information concerning these requirements.
